Rumor Squashed

The Tournament Office would like to officially squash the rumor that the anglers on Boat B will be wearing matching bathing suits as seen in the picture at left.

This attire is mandatory only on Boat A and the color is left to the individual anglers.

Trip Planning Update

Trip Planning
Here's an update from today's lunch meeting and assignments on what to bring

Each person should bring a sandwich, snack, drinks form themselves, sunscreen, dramamine, etc.. In addition, each boat will need some stuff to share as listed below

Boat A:
Cooler - Tim
Camera - Jim
Yardstick - Ron
Egg Timer or Stopwatch - Ron
Scorekeeper - Kent

Boat B:
Cooler - Tomski
Camera - Steve
Yardstick - Ron
Egg Timer or Stopwatch - Steve
Scorekeeper - Steve

Since it will be sunny, each boat will need also need a dedicated "lotion boy". Traditionally this is the youngest member of the boat, someone with supple hands and normally someone in college.

We'll meet at Steve's house at 11:30 on Friday and determine car pools.

We'll plan on being at the dock at 1:30 so we can get fishing licenses and salmon stamps at the boat - they cost ~$6.00 for a one day license

Cost
The five hour trip costs $450 per boat ($420 + fuel surcharge)
Divided by six anglers = $75
Assume $10 tip per person = $85.00
Deposits received = $50.00
Please drop off the additional $35.00 to Steve by next Thursday

Fishing Procedure
The procedure is designed to let everyone have an oppurtunity to catch a fish, even the slower, lower ranked teams (you know who you are)

Each angler gets a 15 minute slot to fish (see order below) working all poles.
If you do not catch a fish in that 15 minutes, the next person is up
If you land a fish you are removed from the rotation until all anglers catch a fish
If a fish is on, but stuggles loose, you are still in the rotation.
Once everyone has caught a fish, the rotation starts over.

Fishing Order
The fishing order is based on receipt on payment for the down payment. Here's the order

Boat A:
1 - Ron
2 - Jim
3 - Merle of the two time defending champion Carp Pros
4 - Jeff
5 - Kent
6 - Tim

Boat B:
1 - Russ
2 - Chuck (filling in for Randy)
3 - Steve of the two time defending champion Carp Pros
4 - Tomski
5 - Patrick
6 - Tom

First Fish Bonus
Since there is no reasonable way to have a first fish bonus, the bonus this event will be the last fish in each boat. That way the Carp Pros can have twice the bonus of a normal week.

Event 2 - The Gaff Masters Strike Back

Only one angler did not land a fish in Event 1 at Shull's Hole. That angler, one Tom Prosapio of the Gaff Masters was unable to attend due to the call of duty (or was it doody). Withouut only Tim representing the GMs' in Event 1, the team struggled and entered Event 2 in sixth place. Well rested, well equipped and well shaded, Tom came out of the gate in Event 2 ready to make amends. His performance did not dissapoint. His first fish was a catfish in the "red" range, followed by a "green" bass and ended the day with a "yellow" bass. On the stregnth of a $68.38 creel, including the first fish bonus, Tom and Gaff Master leapfrogged an ineffective Wigglers and impotent B&B Boys into fourth place in the standings.

Cooler temperatures, a slight breeze and cyrstal blue cloudeless skies greeted the anglers on Friday afternoon. All teams, with the exception of the vacationing Hookers sent representatives to the event. The 'Turds at a charity performance of thier county-renowed, mime-inspired gravity routine were in Ames, Iowa wowing the locals with their topless acrobatics (see photo at right) and instead sent Jerry and Alex to fill in for them. Sadly, he temps were unable to land a fish. Terrified of the wrath of Russ, the two youngsters cowered with fear and prepared for the worst come Monday.
The Wigglers, sans Randy, also were goose-egged with narly a nibble. The B&B Boys, after much bravado and libations also were unable to scratch.
The only other angler besides Tom to land a fish was the Carp Pro's Steve, who with a corn-chumming technique landed a "green" bullhead, much to the delight of the adjacent anglers. In other news, Merle failed to land a fish for the first time in the storied history of the tournament.

The evening ended on a high note as most of the angling crew retired to The Venice Tavern for pizza and drinks.

Event 2 Early Results

Beautiful weather, wonderful turnout, not enough fish. Here's the early results

Wednesday, August 02, 2006

Event #2 - Updated Information

Only two days remain until Event #2 at the Fox River in Batavia. There are few changes to the specifics of the event and are listed below
  1. Special 2 hour event - Starts at 4:30 and ends at 6:30
  2. All banks from the dam and the east and south banks of the pond are eligible. This extended limits is added at the request of you, the angling community.
  3. The consensus seems to retire after the event to a local establishment for pizza.
  4. Two or more poles are acceptable.
  5. Friends, family and other invitees are welcome to assist the lesser capable teams. The Tournament Office will not allow belittling of the lesser team by the upper ranked teams.

Good luck and see you there.

Know Your Fellow Anglers - Issue 2 - Answer

As many of you have already guessed, the answer to the 2nd Issue of Know Your Fellow Anglers was Russ Alber, pictured at left with his treasured, trademark jacket. It almost seemed too easy. Congrats to all who guessed correctly and stay tuned for another issue coming soon.
